Custom Date Range Reports in SavePoint
Standard monthly and yearly reports are useful, but sometimes you need to analyze specific time periods. Maybe you want to see spending during a vacation, compare Q1 of this year to last year, or review the three months after starting a new job. SavePoint's custom date range features let you generate reports for any period you choose.
Accessing Custom Date Ranges
Throughout SavePoint, you'll find date range controls that let you move beyond preset periods. In the Transactions section, the filter options include custom date selection alongside common presets like "Current Month" or "Last 3 Months."
The Reports section provides similar flexibility for generating analysis across custom periods. Enter a start and end date to see totals, breakdowns, and trends for exactly the timeframe that matters to you.
Common Custom Date Range Uses
Tax year analysis (January 1 through December 31). Quarterly reviews for business owners. Event-specific tracking (vacation spending, renovation project costs). Year-over-year comparisons (January through June this year vs. the same period last year).
Working in the Cashflow Center
The Cashflow Center provides detailed budget versus actual analysis by month. You can select which year to view and drill down into specific months. For comparing across years, open the Yearly Trends view to see multi-year data side by side.
Click on any cell in the Cashflow Center to see the individual transactions that comprise that number. This drill-down capability works regardless of the time period you're viewing.
Balance Sheet Historical Views
The Balance Sheet page offers multiple time view options: Current, 3-Month, 6-Month, 12-Month, Current Year, and Last Year. These provide different perspectives on how your net worth has changed over various periods.
The Index Day setting determines which day of the month SavePoint uses for balance snapshots. Adjusting this can align reports with your preferred review schedule or fiscal period.
Exporting Custom Period Data
Reports generated for custom date ranges can be exported for use in other applications or for record-keeping. This is useful for preparing information for tax professionals, creating documentation for loan applications, or archiving historical data.
Data Quality Matters
Custom reports are only as good as the underlying data. Ensure transactions are properly categorized and dated for accurate analysis. Missing or miscategorized transactions will affect any report that includes them.
Practical Applications
Create a custom report covering the last tax year to prepare for filing. Analyze spending during a specific project to understand its true cost. Compare your first three months at a new salary to project annual changes. Track expenses during a trial budget period to see if changes are working.
The flexibility to analyze any date range means SavePoint adapts to your specific questions rather than forcing you into predefined reporting periods.
Analyze Your Finances Your Way
SavePoint puts you in control of your financial analysis. Generate reports for any time period that helps you make better decisions.
