Accessibility Features in SavePoint: Making Finance Software Work for Everyone
When we built SavePoint, accessibility was not an afterthought. Financial management is something everyone deserves access to, regardless of how they interact with technology. From the beginning, we worked to make the software usable for as many people as possible.
This journal entry shares some of the thinking behind our accessibility decisions and how SavePoint accommodates different needs.
Language Support Across Borders
SavePoint currently supports 8 languages: English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Japanese, and Chinese. This was important to us because financial independence is a universal goal, not one limited by geography or native language.
The interface updates when you change the language setting, and if a translation is missing for any element, English displays as a fallback rather than showing broken text or empty labels. We continue improving translations based on user feedback.
Currency Flexibility
Financial software that only works in dollars leaves out most of the world. SavePoint supports over 150 currencies, and each account can have its own currency. Whether you have a checking account in USD, a savings account in EUR, and investments in GBP, the system handles conversions and displays everything clearly.
For users managing finances across multiple countries or dealing with foreign income, this flexibility removes the need for manual calculations or separate tracking systems.
💡 Multi-Currency in Practice
Set your base currency in Settings for consolidated reporting. Each account can have its own currency, and transactions show both the original amount and the converted equivalent. Exchange rates can be updated manually or set up for your specific needs.
Visual Clarity and Readability
Financial data needs to be readable at a glance. We use clear color coding throughout the application: green for assets and income, red for liabilities and expenses. Progress bars and charts use consistent visual language so you can quickly understand your financial position.
The interface supports both light and dark themes, which can reduce eye strain for users who spend significant time reviewing their finances or prefer working in lower light environments.
Offline Operation Benefits Accessibility
Our offline-first design has accessibility benefits that we did not initially anticipate. Users with unreliable internet connections can access all their financial data without interruption. Those in rural areas or traveling internationally are not locked out of their own information.
The software also works on computers without constant network monitoring, which matters for users who prefer to minimize background processes for performance or security reasons.
Keyboard Navigation and Clear Interface Structure
While SavePoint includes mouse and touch interactions, we designed the interface to be navigable and logical in its organization. The main navigation sidebar provides consistent access to all major features: Dashboard, Accounts, Transactions, Budgets, Cashflow, Balance Sheet, Goals, FIRE Planning, Yearly Trends, Reports, and Settings.
Each section follows consistent patterns, so learning one part of the application makes the rest familiar. We avoided hiding important functions behind obscure menus or requiring complex multi-step processes for common tasks.
Ready to Take Action?
Accessibility work is never finished. If you have suggestions for how SavePoint could better serve your needs, we want to hear from you. Our users guide our development, and that includes making the software work better for everyone.
