When we built SavePoint, we started with Windows. It made sense at the time. We were building from our own spreadsheets, solving our own problem, and Windows was what we used every day. But from the beginning, Mac users were asking when they could join in.
Today, I am happy to share that SavePoint is now available for macOS.
The Same Privacy-First Approach
The Mac version works exactly like the Windows version. Your financial data stays on your device. There are no cloud syncs, no accounts to create with us, no data leaving your computer. The software does not phone home. What happens on your Mac stays on your Mac.
This was non-negotiable in the port. We did not take shortcuts that would have compromised the offline-first architecture. Every feature works completely without an internet connection.
💡 Same Features, Same Price
Mac users get the full SavePoint experience: budgeting, balance sheets, cashflow analysis, FIRE planning with Monte Carlo simulations, goal tracking, and all 10+ reports. One-time purchase, own it forever.
Why It Took Time
Porting software between operating systems is not as simple as pressing a button. We had to ensure the database, file handling, and backup systems worked correctly on macOS. We tested across multiple Mac configurations and macOS versions. We wanted Mac users to have the same reliable experience Windows users have had.
We also had to work through Apple's distribution requirements. SavePoint is currently distributed as an unsigned application, which means macOS will show a security warning when you first open it. This is normal for software not distributed through the Mac App Store. Our help documentation walks you through allowing the application to run.
We are exploring Apple notarization and may offer a Mac App Store version in the future, but we wanted to get the software into Mac users' hands now rather than waiting for that process to complete.
Getting Started on Mac
Download SavePoint for Mac from our website. The installer is straightforward, but you will need to allow the application in System Settings when macOS displays its security prompt. We have step-by-step instructions in our help center for anyone unfamiliar with this process.
Once installed, the experience is identical to Windows. Create your profile, set up your accounts, and start tracking. If you have been managing finances in spreadsheets, you can import that data. If you are starting fresh, the setup wizard walks you through creating your first budget.
Multi-Platform Households
Many households have both Windows and Mac computers. With SavePoint now on both platforms, each person can use their preferred system. Because SavePoint stores data locally, each installation is independent. If you want to share data between computers, you can export and import database files, though each copy remains separate.
True multi-device sync is on our roadmap, but it will be done in a way that maintains our privacy-first approach. Local network sync between your own devices, not cloud storage we control.
What Comes Next
The Mac launch is a milestone, but there is more to come. We are continuing to improve SavePoint based on user feedback. Feature requests from the community directly influence what we build. If you have been waiting for Mac support, your wait is over. Come join us.
