Building for Privacy in a Cloud-First World
When we started building SavePoint, the assumption that software should live in the cloud was nearly universal. Every modern finance app connects to servers, syncs to databases, and stores your data somewhere else. We went a different direction.
Why Offline Still Matters
Your financial data is extraordinarily personal. It reveals where you shop, how much you earn, what you value, and how you spend your time. When that data lives on someone else's server, you're trusting not just their security but their business model, their employees, and their future decisions.
Cloud services get acquired. Companies pivot. Terms of service change. The startup promising to never sell your data becomes part of a larger company with different priorities. We wanted to build something where that couldn't happen because your data never leaves your control in the first place.
The Trade-offs We Accepted
Building offline-first software means accepting real limitations. There's no automatic sync between devices. No mobile app that pulls from a central database. No aggregation services that automatically import your bank transactions.
These are genuine conveniences we chose not to offer. We believe the privacy trade-off is worth it, but we understand it's not the right choice for everyone. Some people prefer convenience and trust cloud providers. That's a valid choice.
What Offline-First Means for SavePoint
Your data location: Stored locally on your device only
Internet required: Only for initial license activation
What we see: Nothing about your finances, ever
What could leak: Nothing, because nothing is transmitted
Security Through Architecture
The most secure data is data that doesn't exist on a server. We can't be hacked for your financial information because we don't have it. We can't be subpoenaed for records because there are no records to produce. We can't sell your data because we never collected it.
This isn't just a privacy policy. It's a technical architecture that makes privacy violations impossible rather than merely prohibited.
Building Trust Through Transparency
We try to be clear about what SavePoint does and doesn't do. The software operates offline. Your data stays on your computer. We built it this way intentionally, and we're committed to keeping it this way.
In a world where most software wants to know everything about you, we built something that respects your right to keep your financial life private.
Your Finances, Your Device, Your Control
SavePoint is personal finance software that respects your privacy by design. No cloud, no tracking, no subscriptions.
